Jack Johnson with special guests Jamtown at Fiddler’s Green Amphiteatre

Greenwood Village, CO

July 14, 2017

Musician, surfer and activist are just a few of the adjectives that come to mind when I think of Jack Johnson. You know him, you love him. While on Tour travelled to Colorodo this past month to catch not one, but two shows in the greater Denver area. Lucky for us and you, one of those shows was a sold out performance by Jack Johnson himself at the Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Greenwood Village, Colorado.

To get the night started, the crowd was treated to the harmonies and rhythms of Jamtown, a group of friends comprised of Garrett “G. Love” Dutton, Donavon Frankenreiter and Cisco Adler. Between the three artists there are decades of individual musical accolades to speak of, but when joined together under the band Jamtown pure magic has been created. To be completely honest, I hadn’t heard of this collaboration until we decided to cover this show and I was more than pleasantly surprised when Jamtown began their set. Seven seasoned performers and artists on one stage, 5 different guitars, a keyboard and a drum kit equals a bunch of talent. My personal favorites from their set included “Fool in Love”, “All We Need”, “Pick it Up”, “Grow Up” and “Island Time” which just so happens to be every song on their EP. I am definitely looking forward to a full length from this talented group and you shouldn’t hesitate to give them a listen.

After getting blown away by Jamtown I was super excited for what Jack was sure to bring to the stage. At this point, I had yet to see Jack Johnson perform and had been waiting for him to visit South Florida on tour. Lucky for me, he just happenned to be in Denver the same time I was and I knew I had to capture it with my lens. Jack made sure to start his set off with the song “Upside Down” made hugely popular by the famous children’s film “Curious George”.  He made sure to mention he was playing the song first by request of some friends for any children that needed to go to bed. Jack jokingly spoke about how he planned on playing songs he hadn’t in some time and to forgive him for any messed up lyrics.

At one point, Jack’s multi-instrumentalist band member Zach Gill decided he wasn’t in the mood to play sitting down anymore and jumped onto his piano to liven up the show.

The fans were also treated to G. Love and Jack preforming their song “Rodeo Clowns” and Donovan coming out to join the jam.

The night was finished off with an encore performance and my all time favorite Jack Johnson song, “Better Together”. I left Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre thanking the music gods for an amazing evening of music and a promise that I will definitely be catching Jack on his fall tour in South Florida.
