Lady Antebellum’s “You Look Good” tour stop at Coral Sky Amphitheater

West Palm Beach, FL

July 29, 2017

A beautiful day, a 12-pack, a few chairs, and some great friends is all you need for a perfect South Florida summer tailgate. Concert tailgates are pretty much one big party before the show with all the beer pong and people watching you could ask for. The night was just getting started as people were enjoying their pre-gaming festivities and blasting Lady A out of their lifted trucks.

If you would have asked me five years ago if I could see myself covering a country show, I probably would have laughed in your face. I never listened to country to the point where it said “anything BUT country” on my Myspace back in the day.  Boy am I glad I gave it a chance. People tend to think country music is all about the honkey tonk, beer drinkin’, nascar watchin’, yer darn tootin’ type of shenanigans, but it is so much more than that.  These songs and lyrics have helped me through some pretty tough times in my life and also hold special memories when I hear them played back.  When I was given the opportunity to cover Lady Antebellum’s “You Look Good” tour, I couldn’t have been more excited.

Opening up for Lady Antebellum was the dreamy California boy, Brett Young. I swear nothing shined brighter when he stood on that stage than his piercing bright blue eyes. Brett Young, a native from Orange County, California, took up music and songwriting after an injury during college baseball. Brett’s set was nothing short of amazing, performing songs off his newest album, cleverly titled Brett Young. “Like I Love You,” “In case You Didn’t Know,” and “Sleep Without You” were a few of the songs he played during his set. With such a unique voice, he definitely set the bar high for the rest of the night.

Next to the stage was the beautiful and talented Kelsea Ballerini. Now, remember the part in the beginning how I said country songs have helped me through crappy times in my life? Yeah boy, these would be her songs. Heartbreaks can suck pretty bad, but when you’ve got tracks like “Peter Pan” and “XO” to blast in your car and sing along to, it surprisingly makes them suck a little less. Especially when you can sing them live along with her at the show! Seriously if you saw me at the show I was trying to juggle performing my own concert in the back while trying to get the perfect shots of her at the same time. Strutting her stuff around stage with her long tan legs and boots, Kelsea performed songs off her The First Time album such as “Love Me Like You Mean It” and “Dibs.” She also performed brand new songs,  “Roses” and “Legends,” which will be appearing on her upcoming album Unapologetically releasing in November.

Anxiously waiting for Lady A’s debut to the stage, I couldn’t help but take a look around and just soak in the amazing night that was going on around me. The crowd was pumped, I was pumped, and I couldn’t wait to see these artists who I’ve looked up to for years perform right through my lens. With an awesome instrumental entrance from their trumpet and trombonist, Lady Antebellum took the stage with one of their recent hits “Downtown.” The trio managed to maneuver around stage sticking together for most of the night.

They performed some oldies but goodies such as “American Honey,” “We Owned The Night,” and “I Run To You” along with new tracks such as “Heart Break” and “You Look Good” off of their newest album Heart Break. Taking us back to the 90’s, Lady A covered a Shania Twain hit “Still The One” that had the entire crowd swaying their sea of cellphone lights back and forth. Just when you thought they were done, Hillary, Charles, and Dave come back out to bless us with two more songs before hitting the road again. Ending the night with “Bartender” and “Need You Now,” Lady Antebellum completely exceeded my expectations. It’s amazing to me that a live show can sound just as it does coming off an album and Lady A knocked it out of the park.

Another perfect night, another amazing show, and another day just living my photography dream in the books.

It all started a few years ago when I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and saw the photographer doing her thing when something clicked. I got home, whipped out my camera, started teaching myself little by little and the rest is history. I'm not sure what could be better than combining my love for music with my love for photography. You know that butterfly feeling in the pit of your stomach when you know something feels right? Yah.. That's me and photography. Combine that with capturing amazing artists and high energy shows and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
