Florida Georgia Line – “Smooth Tour” at Coral Sky Amphitheater

And just like that, the country concert season has come to an end, but not without a bang. The Smooth Tour featuring Florida Georgia Line, Nelly, Chris Lane, and Morgan Wallen was one of the best shows I have seen all year. I’m sure the other 20,000 people at this sold out concert would agree with me too. The one thing I loved most about this show was the diversity of music coming off that stage. It didn’t matter if you were a country fan, a hip-hop fan, or a pop fan, all that mattered was that music was bringing people together no matter what you were into. In a time where the world we live in wants to break us apart, music has a way of bringing individuals together and to me, that itself, speaks a thousand words.

The first guy up to par was Morgan Wallen, a good ole country boy from Tennessee. Wallen got his start in the music industry by competing in season 6 of The Voice. Although being eliminated, I would say he’s not doing too bad by opening the stage for Florida Georgia Line. Wallen definitely got the crown pumped for the night and ended his set with his top country hit “The Way I Talk.”

So, funny story about the next artist to come to stage. While visiting my parents in Knoxville, Tennessee earlier this year, my friend Nichole and I decided to check out Cotton Eyed Joes, a local country bar in the area. We had such a great time, danced our boots off and couldn’t have asked for a better night. Well, I spoke too soon. We noticed a stage was being set up for some kind of band but we really didn’t think anything of it. As we were walking to the door, the announcer comes on and says “Are y’all ready for some Chris Lane?” and Nichole and I looked at each other like “did we just hear what we thought we did??” It was Chris freakin’ Lane on the stage and I think Nichole and I ran almost as fast as when they yell out “last call” at the bar. Long story short, Chris was absolutely amazing that night and did just the same on Saturday at Coral Sky. Making all the girls drool in his tight, ripped jeans, Chris performed some of his well known songs such as “For Her,” “Fix,” and one of my favorite covers “Let Me Love You” by Ne-yo.

It’s about to get HOT IN HERE (just kidding it’s always hot we live in Florida) because Nelly was next to take the stage. I was about to time travel back to middle school when he performed “Grillz” and “Shake Ya Tailfeather.” Although not wearing the coveted band-aid under his eye, he was still the Nelly that everyone remembers from appearances on MTV’s TRL. Despite some hot water he’s been in lately, his fans certainly didn’t hold back. The crowd was singing along to his most iconic hits “Air Force Ones,” “Dilemma,” and “E.I.” I never would have thought I’d be able to see him perform in front of my lens but I’m sure glad I did.

As soon as the curtain is raised to set up for Florida Georgia Line, my adrenaline starts to kick in. There’s just something about that anticipation, waiting to see and photograph an artist I’ve admired for such a long time. Brian Kelley hailing from Ormond Beach, Florida and Tyler Hubbard residing from Monroe, Georgia are the two country boys who cleverly make up Florida Georgia Line. Brian and Tyler got their start by performing covers of songs before quickly blowing up the country charts soon after. Their debut single “Cruise” coming out in 2012 broke two records and instantly put them on the map. Later remixing the song with Nelly made it a game changer. Since 2012, the boys have supported four tours and headlined another four on their own. Winding down South Florida to their last country show of the season, Florida Georgia Line went out with a bang. Their stage design was beautiful and the pyrotechnics intensified it.

Brian and Tyler sounded so amazing live to the point you couldn’t tell if they were really singing in front of you or if it was off a record. With a set filled with chart toppers, FGL performed songs such as “Anything Goes,” “Round Here” and “May We All.” As if the crowd couldn’t get enough, Morgan and Chris were brought back out to perform “Sun Daze” with the boys, and Nelly was brought back to the stage to perform their hit “Cruise” together, and not one person was silent.

Like Old Dominion says, “chase after the dream, don’t chase after the money.” I truly love what I do and I am thankful for every show that I get to cover. I couldn’t have asked for a better show to end the season with.

It all started a few years ago when I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and saw the photographer doing her thing when something clicked. I got home, whipped out my camera, started teaching myself little by little and the rest is history. I'm not sure what could be better than combining my love for music with my love for photography. You know that butterfly feeling in the pit of your stomach when you know something feels right? Yah.. That's me and photography. Combine that with capturing amazing artists and high energy shows and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
