Fort Rock Fest Day 2- Bullet for my Valentine, Sixx AM, Pennywise, Bring me the Horizon, 3 Doors Down and Shinedown

We were feeling a little battered and bruised from day 1 of Fort Rock Fest but we picked ourselves up, dusted off and headed back to Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers, FL for round 2. Sunday’s lineup was just as great as the day before and we were ready to rock! First up was Bullet for my Valentine all the way from Wales.

They didn’t disappoint playing fan favorites “Fever” and “Scream Aim Fire”.

Next on the schedule of debauchery we had Sixx A.M. Nikki Sixx formerly of Motley Crew has been performing with his new gang of misfits since late 2006. James Michael, DJ Ashba and Dustin Steinke play alongside Nikki with all the energy and skill we are used to from this rock n roll veteran.

There was one band in particular that was on the top of Martin’s list and that was Pennywise. Having seen them many times in his younger years he was super stoked to not only see them perform again but to photograph them as well. Come to find out my cousin Hannah who also made the trip over to Fort Myers was most excited for them as well. We were able to capture the essence of this killer band and how their fans really feel about their music. Hannah was a total badass and had the best crowd surf of the entire weekend.

In terms of commercial success the next band on the Monster Energy yellow stage would be top dog. Songs “Kryptonite”, “Loser” and “When I’m Gone” dominated the airways on main stream radio. 3 Doors Down had no trouble making the crowd sing like a canary at a karaoke contest. The ladies in particular could be heard belting out their favorite tunes and I must admit I knew a lyric or five.

Being married to a Brit myself I have somewhat of a soft spot for them. Bring me the Horizon sure did fill my cup that day. Front man Oliver Sykes got down on my level and gazed into my soul and got me hook, line and sinker. With  hard hitting guitars riffs and temple piercing vocals, Bring me the Horizon brought the fans what they were craving too.

Jacksonville, Florida natives Shinedown  brought a “Simple Man’s” ease to the Monster Energy Black stage on Sunday afternoon. Front man Brent Smith belted out “Save Me” and “Second Chance” to the delight of the fans. Eric Bass (on bass) showed everyone how it is done on stage and gave the people exactly what they wanted for a show.

While in the photo pit for the first 3 songs I was knocked down by a jerk off male photographer and then stepped on by another jerk off male photographer. Shockingly, neither one of them bothered to give me a second look or help me. I had to be picked up and rescued by security and that unfortunately ended our night. Not before I was able to have an amazing time though. The weekend was most definitely a great one and we plan on covering this event again in the future.

If you have ever been on the fence about whether or not to go to Fort Rock Fest, don’t be. Life is short, buy the damn concert ticket!

Until next time, we will see you at a show!
